Oh Yes You Can! Dust Mop Like The Pros!
Hello Everyone,
Dusting is a major part of effective house cleaning. It removes dust and light litter or soil from
hard surfaces. Whether it's on floors, walls or ceilings
you need to use the proper mops and products to capture dust instead of moving it around in the air
is the critical component of good dusting. Here are a few tricks we use when dusting homes as well
as commercial establishments.
First of all,
dust mopping can be done as a daily or weekly cleaning procedure, or as the first step in preparation for damp
mopping or more extensive floor maintenance work. Use a dust mop of the appropriate size for the space that needs to be
dusted. For example, use a 12 or 15-inch dust mop in an average home living or family size room. Size up from there. Using
the proper sized dust mop can cut your time almost in half.
Dust mops come in several varieties and materials. Use a tightly twisted pre-laundered cotton yarn construction mop head. It
gives the dust mop unparalleled durability. It will not fray or snag and withstands repeated laundering. Look for yarn
with twisted closed end "loops."
Second,
there are various dust mopping treatments that can make you work easier and the surface cleaner. These treatments
act as magnets and actually attract and hold the dust particles to the mop head. There are basically two types of dust
mop treatments, oil based and water based. Some products are liquids, some are aerosols.
• Oil Base Dust Mop Treatment
These are high quality dust mop treatments which attract and hold dust to the dust mops.
They are ideal for maintaining all types of flooring: wood, vinyl, terrazzo,
concrete, quarry tile, and synthetic sports floors.
important thing in oil based treatments is to make sure the product is VOC free (volatile organic compounds.)
Parish Dust Mop Treatment is one such product. It is specially formulated to meet EPA-VOC requirements as a
dusting aid without sacrificing cleaning and protective properties. Low evaporation rate, makes it very
economical to use.
• Water Based Dust Mop
These are non-flammable water-based dust mop treatments. They are compatible with all floor polishes and finishes.
Because the products contains no oil, they eliminate flammability, oily residues, and streaking associated with
oil-based mop treatments. Parish makes a good product called Pextrol in this category. Aquatreat is also a good product.
• Sprays
Sprays come in either aerosol cans or spray bottles. Spray products can quickly and easily be applied to both
dust mops and cloths. Their main advantage is convenience and they come in both oil and water based products.
We use spray bottle products for all our cleaning. You can either fill your own bottles from floor mixes or use
Spartan Dust Mop/Dust Cloth treatment in the spray bottle.
Aerosol spray cans are very convenient but make sure you read the can carefully and spray in a well ventilated area.
Products such as Claire Select Dust Mop Treatment Lemon scented, Misty Dust Mop Treatment, Rochester Midland.
Third, walls and ceilings can be dusted, too. Instead of the cotton
loop floor mop head use an 8" to 12" wide cotton pad.
